Swinton Band 1936

The earliest known photo of Swinton band probably dates from1936 - the year of the band's formation.  It shows the eight-strong band being helped out by a number of players from Kirkbymoorside Town Band

Whitby 1970

This picture taken at Whitby around 1970 shows the first female band members, one of whom (Jane – here in her miniskirt!) is still flugel with the band. Both our life members are there too!

Colonel TetleyBand President, Colonel Tetley cuts the band's birthday cake.  Col. Tetley died September 2nd 2004 at the age of 91.

Polly Cartwright

 

Polly Cartwright was the wife of Clarrie who was Bandmaster for thirty years.  She continued to be a key figure in the band for the rest of her life and was made a life member in 1997, shortly before her death.  This picture shows her cutting the cake on her 80th birthday in 1991

Stewart and Ray

Stewart Thorp presents Ray Ratcliffe with the "Good Egg" trophy.  Ray, who died in 1995, was the ultimate "Good Egg", being a non-playing band member responsible for transport, maintenance, common sense and general "gofering" together with unfailing support for Dorothy in her role as Secretary.
