Swinton Post
Volume 3, Issue 3                                                                              March 2005

I’m still here!

Doesn’t time fly when you are enjoying yourself?  Six months on, and I’m still waiting for a replacement for Mary! Oh well, in the meantime...

Darlington – it’s over ...

...and you never need to see “Tam o’ Shanter’s Ride” again (until the next time!)

Well done to everyone for all the amazingly hard work that has been put in by everyone since Christmas. It paid off – we put in a really good performance and although we did not do as well as we might have hoped it was a very positive (if illegible!) adjudication. Before the results, Alan Morrison said it was the most difficult contest he had had to adjudicate and that all the bands playing should be proud of themselves.  We are!!

And we are especially proud of our amazing principal cornet – Beccy did a fantastic job on a filthily difficult piece.  Well done to her and to all the other soloists – you did us proud!

We’re running out of walls!

Thanks go to Valerie for a lovely framed photograph of Ray Dalton that she has given to put up in the Bandroom.  Now all we have to do is to find a vacant space to put it!  For those of us who remember how bare the bandroom used to look it’s a lovely problem to have!

Jumble Sale!

We have been lucky enough to get a slot for one of the famed Sheriff Hutton Jumble Sales! Last time the sum raised was in four figures!  It’s on 16th April – that’s SOON! And that means WORK!

We need JUMBLE – lots of it.  Bring it to the bandroom if you haven’t got storage space.  Ask neighbours, friends and family for it – now is a really good time to have a clear-out!

We need PEOPLE – to help on stalls, to work in the kitchen, to set up and clear away! If you can possibly help please see Dorothy.

We need CAKES on the day – for the Cake stall and for the Refreshments.

We need PRIZES – for the Raffle and the Tombola.

We need THE MONEY – Help to make this Jumble Sale as good or better than the last!

Help needed for learners

Since the loss of Ray, we do need adults to give an occasional hand on Saturday nights as relief teachers.  Please see Steve or Catherine if you could help!

Attention all learners!

Because of the Band Dinner there will be no Learners session on 2nd April.  If you would like to come please get a form from Steve and get it back to him ASAP!

Do remember about the A.G.M.!  This is not just a matter for Main Band.  If you or your parents are interested in standing for the Committee (you must be 16 or over), let Dorothy know.

Band Dinner

Please return your form with the money to Steve or Dorothy as soon as possible (Like yesterday!), or you might miss out on what should be a really good evening!

All those who were awarded trophies last year – now is the time to find them, clean them up and get them back to Steve, BEFORE the Band Dinner (please don’t just bring them on the night!)

Dust off the silly ties again- or rather find some even sillier ones!

And remember, we will have the usual Raffle, so please bring prizes for it on the night.

Birthdays

Ha ha – There is no escape from standing on your chair!

Josephine - 18th

If I have missed you out, I'm really sorry and I hope you all enjoy(ed) your Birthdays.

Buy a Brick

We will shortly be starting a new push for fundraising with a “Buy a Brick” campaign.  Jane will shortly be asking you to sell tickets for this.  There will be four “lucky bricks” with superb prizes to be drawn for in September.  Please give Jane your support in this and get the money flowing in.  The hole in the wall has not gone away!

TIP OF THE MONTH...

We have no engagements for the next few weeks, so now would be a really good time to get jackets and ties dry-cleaned before the summer is upon us!

It’s that time of year again..

Yes, it’s time to Spring Clean the Bandroom!  Come and find all those things you lost, dropped or hid!  Come and see grown men dusting!!

The customary morning of hard work and laughter will take place on 24th April.  Please offer your services to Dorothy – no experience needed!

A.G.M. – 14th March 7.30

This is when we decide how the band is going to be run this year and the Officers and Committee are elected for the oncoming year.  It is important that you attend and have your say in your band.  This also applies to Mums and Dads – we’d like them to come and get involved!

If you are over 16 and would like to be considered for the Committee, please let Dorothy know ASAP so that your name can be added to the list for voting.
Reminder to the present committee – there will be a short meeting before the AGM at 7.00.

Lists and more lists!

Engagement lists will be coming out this week. Please READ them and let Dorothy know as soon as possible if you can’t do any of them!

There is also a holiday list on the noticeboard.  Please can you write the dates of your holidays on it when you know them to help Dorothy in her planning!
