Band Folders

We’ve given up on the purple folders! It just wasn’t working.  This does NOT mean that we don’t want you to practice!  We do! If you would like a full practice set of music please let me know and I’ll be delighted to do it for you.  If it’s just one or two pieces you want – the same applies!

Please ensure your folder gets to band jobs and practices even if you aren’t there – there is little more frustrating than having a player (guest, visitor or some other band member) and no music!

Easingwold Contest

This contest is on Saturday 30th June in Easingwold Marketplace.  It is a really good night out for all the family.  From 6.00 p.m. onwards about 20 bands compete, marching round the square and then playing a contest march on the bandstand.

It is a really good chance to hear other bands playing and to meet up with members of other bands in and outside the numerous pubs, chippies etc. in which Easingwold abounds.

If you would be interested in making a social evening of it and booking a bus, please contact Dorothy as soon as possible so that she can sort it out!

St Leonard’s Concert.

Dan is our guest soloist for this concert in aid of African Mission, the charity run by his uncle.   He will be at both practices this week to work on his solos- please do your absolute best to be there!

There will be a raffle during the interval of the concert – raffle prizes would be very welcome!  Please bring them on the night or get them to Lizzie or Catherine.

Welcome..

.. to Ellis, who has just come up to the main band from learners on baritone.  It’s great to have that seat covered!

Attendance

At the risk of sounding horribly hypocrital (guess who’s not at band tonight!), please can band members make every effort to get to both band practices and band jobs.  The band is a team and everyone is needed.  Even if Dorothy can fill your seat for a job it isn’t the same thing as having YOU there!  And it is soul-destroying for the whole band if there is a whole section missing from band practice!

Of course there are valid reasons for not getting to rehearsals or jobs – death is generally considered reasonable, though please try to be considerate in your timing!  And of course sometimes you may be forced to arrive late or leave early – but please try to stay for full practices – your band needs you!

If you really can’t make it – please let Dorothy know in advance.  But do try to be there – we NEED you!!

YHBBA Workshop.

Advance notice that this will be on Saturday 27th October at South Minsthorpe.  This is a really worthwhile day out – teaching from Grimethorpe players and excellent food!  Whatever your level of ability, you can get a lot out of it – there’s always something to learn and the tutors are very helpful as well as being amazing players!  Put it in your diaries now – forms will be out soon.

Fund-raising

Last year we took the year off from fundraising so as a result there is a financial crisis!!

Seriously though, now we need to start all over again!  We’ve bought new instruments, we want more uniforms – we really need more money and as soon as possible!!  Ideally this money should come from people who are not already giving loads to the band!

If anybody has bright ideas about this – don’t keep them to yourselves.  Even better, if anyone wants to organise something – please do!  Obviously there are people who will help- you won’t have to do everything!  We already have offers to organise a Treasure Hunt and a big Raffle.  Keep the ideas and the offers coming!  Do talk to Dorothy about what you want to do and any ideas you may have!

If you are interested in helping with fund-raising, it would be good if we could set up some kind of email group to keep each other posted about what is going on.  Please let Catherine have your email addresses and we’ll try to get something organised.

Keep the ideas coming!!

Jane’s Birthday.

Jane will be 50 this month and is holding a party on 15th June at 8.00 at the Railway Club to which all band members are invited.  Please do RSVP if you are planning on going!  Have a really good time, Jane!!

Holiday and Engagement Lists

The Holiday list is now up on the board. PLEASE fill in the dates when you will be away so that Dorothy can try and find players to take your place! Also please fill in your engagement list and let Dorothy have it so that she can transfer everything to her master lists and see who can do what!  She will then give you your list and can then settle down to the happy task of borrowing players to fill your seats while you are away!

Calling all Learners (and their parents!)

Please note there will be NO Learners session on 30th June to enable people to go to Easingwold Contest.  Do consider going to this – it’s a fun evening out for all the family and a chance to hear some good bands in action

Committee meeting

There will be a committee meeting on 21st June.  If there are matters you would like the committee to discuss, please ask Dorothy to put them on the agenda or ask a committee member to raise them.
