It’s
back to that time again...
...and
I sit and wonder whether there’s enough material for a newsletter!
Of course there is!
Something’s always happening in this band!!
Buy
a Brick!
Our
next fundraising venture is now under way!
Jane will have issued you with some tickets to sell for the Grand
Draw to take place in November.
So now is the time to get selling!
Don’t feel you are limited to the tickets Jane has given you – she
will be delighted to provide you with more!
We have 2,500 to dispose of and can always get more printed!
So get selling – after all Tim has now actually started work on
repairing the Bandroom.
We need to be able to pay him!!
When you’ve sold yours please get the stubs and the money back to Jane
and get some more to sell!
A
reminder!
After
complaints from residents about Band members parking on the grass at the
bottom of Middle Street, we do need to remember to be careful about how we
park and to display Swinton Band notices in their front window while
parked for band practices.
Don’t let’s give anyone an opportunity for any more trouble on the
parking front!
Best
Wishes…
…
to Frances and Edd as they get married at St Leonard’s Church on Saturday
July 16th.
Good luck to you in married life!
Another
date for the diary!
14th-17th July – Suddaby’s
Summer Beer Festival. All
of a sudden you will find all our ex-players return to Malton – I wonder
why! These evenings are great
– good beer, live music and a chance to socialise and catch up with old
friends. Oh and sell “Buy a
Brick” tickets!!!
Advance
planning
The
YHBBA
Minsthorpe
Brass masterclass 2005
will be
held on Saturday 12th November.
If you are interested in going talk to Dorothy who will be getting
application forms.
On the basis of previous years, this should be well worth going to!

Man
in the Middle
As
you will probably have gathered, Robin has decided that with his
increasing family commitment, he needs to resign as Bandmaster as from
September. This means we are actively seeking a new bandmaster to take
over the position then.
As our longest serving bandmaster since Clarrie Cartwright we are very
grateful for all the effort he has put into the band over the last few
years, not least in getting us up from fourth into third section.
(Incidentally you will be glad to hear that we have retained our
grading, and will still contest in the third section next year!)
We wish him well in further ventures and in his forthcoming
marriage.
Birthdays!
Ha
ha – There is no escape from standing on your chair!
16th
July - Anna
20th July - Sarah
If
I have missed you out, I'm really sorry and I hope you all enjoy(ed) your
Birthdays.
Congratulations…
…to
Peter on his degree result!
Peter achieved a first in Computer Studies at Liverpool
University.
Respect!
…to Jessica who has been awarded a music scholarship to Ampleforth
College.
Well done!
TIP
OF THE MONTH
Make friends and influence people – help
with setting up and putting away after band jobs.
Many hands make light work and most of the work involved in this IS
light.
We all want to get away quickly – if you help we all can!
If you don’t know how the percussion sets up or takes apart – ASK!
It’s not rocket science – or percussionists couldn’t do it !!
(Contrary to popular belief neither Derek nor Mike are employed by NASA!)
The actual loading of the trailer should usually be left to the person who
is going to drive it, so that he can get the weight distribution right.
Bring things in the order he asks for them!
Offers to return to the Bandroom to help unpack will usually be very
welcome!
So, of course, will offers to take the trailer in the first place!
