It’s that time of the month when yet again I
sit in front of the computer with a puzzled look! Though this month I have
managed to get 2 pages!
Band
BBQ
Steve is having the annual band BBQ on the 17th
July at his house (7 The Chase). All band (learners and main band) members
and their families are welcome. If you would like to go please sign you
name on the list on the cupboard doors in the band room with the number of
people you are likely to bring. Food is provided, but if you have
something special you fancy then bring it along, and of course don’t
forget to bring something to drink!
Birthdays
Ha ha – There is no escape from standing on your
chair!
Anna – 16th
Sarah – 20th
Apologies to Sarah for wishing her a Happy Birthday last month! I hope
I have got it right this month and apologise if I have missed anyone.
Happy Birthday to anyone I have missed!
TIP
OF THE MONTH......
Judging by the weather over
the last few days which has resulted in the cancellation of Leavening
School fete – make sure you have your waterproofs handy at all band
jobs. If it rains don’t blame me if you get wet!
Band Bowling Trip
A while ago a number of band
members said that they felt it was time we had another band bowling trip.
So far no dates have been set, but there are a number of possible dates.
It has been suggested that we arrange a trip for either 22nd or
23rd July (Thursday/Friday) or a weekend in August. If people could let Dorothy know if they want to go and
when would be good then we can get on and arrange it as we need to
book 2 weeks in advance.
It will cost £15.99 per person which will include a meal, drinks
vouchers, shoes and 2 games. You will need to arrange your own transport
to Clifton Moor MegaBowl however. These trips have always been fun in the
past and it would be great if we could get as many people together as
possible, as usual friends and family are welcome.

Grand
Balloon Race
Beccy is organising a Grand Balloon Race in aid of band
funds. The balloons are going to be launched at Burnby Hall on the 29th
August. Beccy is giving every family 10 tickets to sell, if you have not
got any yet, (you must be doing a good job of avoiding Beccy!) make sure
you get some from Beccy and get selling them! They are £2 each and the
prize for the balloon which travels the furthest is £100. The person who
returns the balloon which travels the furthest also wins £10 – balloons
which are returned from Australia are unlikely to win, so don’t start
posting them off to distant long lost cousins!
The money raised from this race will go towards the much need repairs for
the bandroom so it is important to get selling tickets. Lizzie has already
done absolutely fantastically well, managing to sell 50(!!!!) tickets at Easingwold last weekend. So beat that!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Jenny who
after 4 years has finished at Durham University with a First Class Honours
degree in Languages. On behalf of the band I would like to say well done
and good luck with the future.
Congratulations also go to Maggie who won the district shot-put
competition and so went to the Yorkshire finals to represent Ryedale.
Unfortunately she injured herself on her first throw and so didn’t
manage to continue her success.
Congratulations (or felicitations as I am informed!) go to Donna and Ian
who got engaged on Donna’s 18th birthday last month. We wish
you both all the very best for the future.
Don’t
forget…
…..to pick up your new band membership card from
Dorothy!
Band
photos
There are
still CDs available of the band dinner photos at £3 each. Catherine is
still collecting photos for the “Swinton Band 2004 Album”, so if you
have any photos you would like to share pass them on!

The
Band Garden Fete
It has been
decided this year to hold another garden fete and the Leadills have very
generously said we can use their garden for the afternoon. The fete will
be in the afternoon of August 14th so keep your diaries free!
Tracey has taken on the very daunting job of organising everybody –
rather her than me! She is currently after everybody’s help to provide
items for the following stalls;
Cakes (on the
day to Jane)
Bottle Stall
(to Kath, drinks only & wrapped)
Bric-a-brac
(to Mr & Mrs Ponton-Brown)
Tombola (to Mrs Whitfield/Mrs Mayo)
Raffle (to Derek)
Bran tub (to Mrs Gillie)
Books
(Valerie)
Children’s toys (tbc)
Chipped &
cracked crockery (for smashing
apparently!)
– Tom & Pete.
Tracey is also looking for volunteers to help out on the day
to help set up, run things and clear away at the end of the day. If you
have any ideas that aren’t listed above then feel free to ring Tracey
and talk to her about what you would like to do.
The garden fete is an important chance for us to raise more
money for the bandroom repairs so the more people who help the better!
