It’s cold and miserable

…the heating is on the blink, everybody has a cold and there’s not a lot of news! It must be February again!  Never mind, things can only improve!!

Birthdays

Ha ha – There is no escape from standing on your chair!

Happy Birthday to:

1st Feb.  Ian

10th Feb. Maggie
12th Feb. Catherine

17th Feb. Edward

As usual to anyone else I have missed – Happy Birthday!

Folders

Please don’t take your folders home this Monday – I will sort out the music for the summer programme (so far) on Tuesday and folders will be back on Wednesday.  If you want to practise something on Tuesday and Wednesday , take the test-piece home!  While we are on the subject PLEASE take care of your music - don’t fold it, stand on it, eat it, write on it in anything other than pencil – it costs a fortune!!

Band Dinner

The band dinner will be on 31st March at the Lodge Hotel, Old Maltongate.  Steve has booking forms so if you haven’t had one ask him for one immediately!  It should be a really good night, so get your party frocks out and look out your silliest ties!

TIP OF THE MONTH...

When practising the test piece (or anything else come to that!), don’t waste time “practising” the bits you can play, practice the bits you can’t play – don’t avoid them. If you do have any problems, don’t be afraid to ask for help (only a few members of band have been known to bite in the past!)

Our lovely smart Bandroom!

Please try and keep it that way!  This means putting mutes, music etc. away at the end of practice, putting mugs and glasses in the kitchen (after you’ve washed them up) and putting your rubbish in the appropriate bin.  Please take care to sort the rubbish – Anna has generously offered to deal with the recycling and does not want to have to pick through your used chewing-gum and tea-bags etc.

Dorothy is buying lots of cleaning equipment and will then put up a cleaning rota for us all to sign.  The more volunteers we have to clean the Bandroom, the less often we will have to do it!!  Please don’t let the same people do it all!

Dates for your Diary!

Please take note!

18th Mar Area Contest - Darlington
21st  Apr Concert, Trinity Church, Norton
13th May Rogation Sunday

Vacancies

If you know or hear of any experienced cornet (or trumpet even!) players looking for a band please try and point them in our direction – the more the merrier!
There are still some places in the learners group available!  Parents, if you are not already playing or learning, come and give it a try! If you are transporting your children, you might as well have fun learning too! (The editor can personally recommend this as an approach!)
