Happy Easter!

And the Summer season has already started! This is going to be an unusually busy month, so get organised!!

Darlington –that’s that for another year!

First of all, a huge thank you to Phil for all the work he has done to get us able to give a performance of an extremely demanding piece that, I think, few of us really liked! The improvement in our playing over the last couple of months has been amazing!

Well done also to the entire band for all the amazingly hard work that has been put in by everyone since Christmas. It’s a shame that the adjudicator didn’t like us, though we would have had to be outstandingly special to win from the front after drawing the first place!   A special well done goes to all the soloists, you did us proud on the day.

While the adjudicator’s remarks were pretty harsh, we would do well to take them on board.  But one thing has improved – there was hardly a mention of tuning problems!  WOW!!

Band Dinner

As you know, this will be at The Lodge Hotel in Malton on 8th April, 7.00 for 7.30.

All those who were awarded trophies last year – if you haven’t already done so, now is the time to find them, clean them up and get them back to Steve, BEFORE the Band Dinner (please don’t just bring them on the night!)

Dust off the silly ties again- or rather find some even sillier ones!  I’m sure both Brian and Pete will be strong competition!

And remember, we will have the usual Raffle, so please bring prizes for it on the night.

A.G.M.- 10th April at 8.00 p.m.

This is when we decide how the band is going to be run this year and the Officers and Committee are elected for the oncoming year.  It is important that you attend, whatever your age, and have your say in your band and how it should be run.  It is on a band night so there is no excuse for not being there! It is NOT a night off!

If you are over 16 and would like to be considered for the Committee, please let Dorothy know so that your name can be added to the list for voting.  Remember, this is your band – if you want your views to be heard, the committee is where you should be!

If there are matters you would like raised at the A.G.M. please let Dorothy know so that they can be put on the agenda.

Committee Members!

Please remember the last meeting of the current committee will take place on 10th April at 7.30 pm. immediately before the AGM.  Please be on time so that it doesn’t over-run!

Band Practice (or lack of it!)

Please note that there will be no band practice on Easter Monday!  Make the most of it!

Off to a flying start.

Congratulations to Patrick on his first concert with us.  It was a great evening and the audience really enjoyed it!

Well done to the band – considering how little time we have had to prepare a programme it went really well!

Thanks go too to all the kindly souls who came to fill in the gaps in the band – we fielded a fine sized band with several faces from the past helping out.  Well done all!

Birthdays

Ha ha – There is no escape from standing on your chair! Happy Birthday to:

                Mike               3rd April
               Beccy              27th April (21 today!!)

As usual to anyone else I have missed – Happy Birthday!

Recycling

Anna has requested that people are selective about what paper they put in the paper bin.  Please do not put envelopes, used tissues and similar in as they are not suitable for recycling.

April Concerts

The next one is conveniently located next door to Dorothy’s house.  Parking for this is easy – there’s quite a bit of parking space at the rear of the chapel, but if that’s full park in Dorothy’s garden!

The following one is at Thornton Dale Church where parking is a bit more of a problem – please ask Dorothy about this; she is trying to sort out details at the moment.

Welcome

We are glad to have a new recruit to the back row cornets.  Luke has recently moved into the area and has joined the third cornet line-up.

50 years of YHBBA

As well as being our 70th anniversary this year is the 50th for Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association.  To celebrate this there will be a special concert by Grimethorpe Colliery Band of a newly-commissioned work at Ripon Cathedral on 15th July at 7.30.  Dorothy has tickets available at £10.  Please try and support the Association!

Attention all learners!

Please remember that throughout April, Learners’ sessions are on Sunday afternoons at 2.30.  Unsurprisingly we are not having one on Easter Day!
Sessions go back to the normal format on Saturdays on May 6th.

Band Engagements

Please can you check your diary, and mark up on your copy of the Band engagement list whether you can do each engagement, and then let Dorothy have it back so that she can copy them onto a master list – you will then get it back!  So far she has only had four lists in, so please get the act together!

Every year it gets more difficult to find players to deputise – it involves a lot of ringing round, begging and calling in favours!  Dorothy really needs plenty of time for this – especially as she is going to be taking a well-earned proper holiday this summer!
The Holiday list has gone up on the noticeboard!  Please fill in the dates when you will be away as soon as you know them so that Dorothy has time to arrange cover.  Don’t leave it till the last minute!  PLEASE!!
