Welcome to the new Band Newsletter.

The newsletter is here! Finally I have got myself sorted, sat down and begun to type………

The newsletter is for you. Hopefully it will contain most of what you need to know and maybe some you don’t! So if you have something you want to put into the monthly letter let me know, the only way I can know things is if people tell me.

Swintons Baby Boom

Congratulations to Robin and Andrea on the birth of Caitlin Rose in the wee small hours of the 19th September. As Caitlin weighed in at 5lb 10oz, this meant that Jane took the prize for getting the closest guess at the weight winning £9. Congratulations also goes to Jane on becoming a grandmother again.

Birthdays – ha ha, there is no escape from standing on your chair!

Lizzie – 4th September
Stewart – 7th September

Hedley – 20th September

Tip of the Month......
Did you know that an electric toothbrush is the ideal tool for cleaning out your mouthpiece?  Honestly!  Try it and see!

Band Social Fund

At the moment the band social fund is worryingly low. The fund pays for things such as the bus to the band dinner and Easingwold. Money from band funds can’t go into this account. So we need to think of ways to top this up from within the band.  There is a pot sitting in the kitchen in which you con place any loose change you may hove spare.  Come up with some ideas as to how to fill it up, otherwise we may have to walk a long way home from the band dinner!

Can you help?

When Lizzie leaves, we'll be losing a valuable asset to the Learners band in the form of a teacher. We really need a third regular teacher.

You need to be over 18 and to have police clearance (the band will arrange this). If you are a cornet or a horn player oil the better (oil current teachers being tuba players!)

If you think you con help, talk to Dorothy or Catherine
.

Smartening up!

Looks like we'll be getting smarter in the next week or so. The new folders have arrived and will shortly (if not already by the time you read this!) be in use. Please treat them kindly so that they lost as long as, if not longer than the last ones.

Also there has been another delivery! The new waterproofs have arrived. So now we con play rain or shine! It is essential
that all players take their waterproof to ALL band jobs. They are just as important as your instrument and the rest of your uniform. So keep it in a place where you can't forget it! For example the bell of your boss, that tiny little space in your case, the bottom of your jacket case. Wherever you decide to keep it - DONT FORGET IT!

It’s that time of the year again……

…..
when we wave goodbye to some of players (sob sob sob). This year we lose our principals from both sides of the bandroom, Lizzie & Susan. Lizzie heads off to Salford and to Eagley Band to study Music while Susan heads to Sheffield to study Economics (!). We also wave goodbye to Ruth who is vanishing across the channel to France.

But as ever, their leaving leaves room for others to progress. So we have Heather moving to principal Cornet and Chris to principal Euph. We also see the move of Mike from bass to trombone! (though he will still be hitting things at the back!) There are likely to more moves in the coming months so it looks like it might be all change!

But I would like to say to all those who are moving either away from the band or within the band, good luck! To those of you moving away, we’ll see you at Christmas!

While I'm at it.
I would like to say congratulations to Becky, Ruth, Susan, Lizzie, MatthewL., Josh, Heather, Will, those who took public exams (A-levels, AS levels amd GCSEs to those of you who don't know) this summer and good luck for the future.

Well done to Emily and Maggie (of Learners) who have passed their Grade exams.  Keep up the good work!

Band Website (www.swinton-band.org.uk)

I would like to remind people that the new band website is up and running! If you haven't been to look at it yet, why not? You'd better go and check that you haven't been caught on camera in the lost 67 years! If you have you can be pretty sure our web team will have found the evidence!

There is now a Guestbook, so you con leave your comments and thoughts for others to see.

Another section worth having a look at is the Rogues Gallery. Whether you are there or not it's worth a laugh! Contributions for this and other pages are always gratefully received ' And no matter how much you pay the web team, the photos will still be there (at least until replaced by something worse/better)!

Currently the Web Team (Catherine & Stewort) are searching for a photo of Life Member Polly Cartwright. Con you help?

*Attention all Learners*

It's all change at Learners. On the 30th August, we bid a fond farewell to Kath, who due to family commitments has decided to leave her post as learners co-ordinator. On behalf of the Band, I would like to thank Kath for all her hard work.

Taking on Kath's role from the 13th September, is Catherine. And no, I'm not being dippy; there is no Learners Session on the 6th due to main Band commitments at Thirsk Races that day. Normally if regular teachers are unavailable then cover will be arranged and the session will
take place as usual, unless main Band commitments prevent this.

Another change at learners is that now should you have any problems or be unable to attend please now contact Dorothy (01653
694344)

Contributions and information for the October issue to reach me, no later than the 28th of September.

(Con you tell I had a gap to fill?)
