Well,
despite the impressive advert in last month’s newsletter, there has not
been a huge flood of applicants for the post of Editor!!
Anyone who would like to take this on –PLEASE speak to Dorothy.
Meanwhile as temporary (and not temporary as in temporarily
doing the website!!) acting editor, I will do my best.
Christmas
is coming
Dorothy will be writing to you all before long as we will be in need of
your help (and that of Mums, Dads, friends and relations) with Christmas
Carolling. We need players, we need collectors so that we can raise lots
of money, so please try and make yourselves available for this.
Last year was a record so let’s see if we can break that record
this year!
Col. Tetley
As you will all know, Col
Tetley passed away in September, and several representatives of the Band
attended the Memorial Service held for him last weekend.
It was a lovely service with the church beautifully decorated and
VERY well-attended – many of us were outside in the churchyard with the
service relayed on loudspeakers.
50+ Club
All the members of the
50+ Club should have renewed their membership for year by now. There are
also always some spaces on the list for new members!
Membership is £12 a year, with the potential to win £20 first prize and
£5 second prize each month. Half of the money goes to band funds and the
other half to prizes, so it's a win win situation.
Well
Done!
Congratulations go to
Susan who is now qualified to terrorise the roads of Yorkshire.
No excuse now for not getting to practices!
2005
Area Contest
Do be aware that the
Area Contests at Darlington are going to be very early next year.
They will take place on 26-7th February, with our
section playing on the Sunday morning.
Be warned, this will mean a horribly early start as we’ll have to
be at the Dolphin Centre by 9.00!!!
The test piece “Tam o’Shanter’s Ride” makes “Viscaya” look
very easy, and we won’t have long to practise after Christmas, so
practice copies will be available from Monday.
Please take one and get note-bashing!
Attention
all learners (and others!)
Kirkbymoorside Band
are holding a learners’ workshop and evening concert on Saturday 30th
October which is open to players from all the Ryedale Bands.
These events have been very
useful and great fun for players of all ages in previous years.
The workshop, which is free, will be held at Kirkbymoorside
Methodist Church from 12.00 till 4.00, and the Concert in the Memorial
Hall will be at 7.30. If you
would like to go, please let Dorothy know asap.
TIP OF THE MONTH......
Find your lyre! It
isn't long before Remembrance and carolling. See Dorothy if you haven't
had one, hang your head in shame if you've lost yours! If the latter is
the case, Banks may still have some or Dorothy might be kind.

Fundraising
Ideas wanted.
It
came as a shock this year to find that the stonework of the Bandroom is in
need of major repairs, which will cost in the region of £8,750.
We made a fantastic start on the necessary fundraising in August
with four events that raised £2,110.
Now
we need your help! If we don’t get this money raised in the next two
years we might not have a Bandroom!!
So, can you come up with some more fundraising ideas? If you can,
please get in touch with Dorothy on 694344
.
Birthdays
Ha ha – There is no escape from standing on your
chair!

If
I have missed you out, I'm really sorry and I hope you all enjoy(ed) your
Birthdays.
Malton Contest
This year Malton
Contest is on 7th November and we will be doing a programme of
music significantly more difficult than we have in the past.
This means we will have to PRACTISE hard, both at home and in the
Bandroom! This means that
attending band practices is even more important than usual, so please make
a real effort to get to them.
As well as the regular practices, there will be two extra ones on Sunday
31st October at 2.30 and Saturday 6th November at
7.30. Please try to get to
these! One of the practices
in the week of 25th October will be at Norton College so that
we get used to playing in a different acoustic.
If you absolutely can’t get to a practice (Death is generally regarded
as a reasonable excuse!) then please let Dorothy know beforehand.
New
and Old Instruments
We would like to thank
Valerie for her generosity in donating a Conn trombone to band.
This gives us a good quality straight trombone ideal for
left-handed players! Thank
you very much indeed, Valerie!
The band also took advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity to
acquire a ludicrously cheap B flat Bass after Mike spotted a BOGOF offer
at Harrogate!
As a result of this latter we have two instruments for sale at very
competitive prices! There is
a Besson Sovereign lacquered BB flat bass
available for £1,000
o.n.o. and a Besson 700 silver-plated E flat bass
for £850 o.n.o.
If you or anyone you know is interested
do let Dorothy know.
Also for sale (though not by the band) is a very nice trombone!
Helen S. is wanting to part with her Vincent Bach Straight
trombone. It has had very
little playing in the last five years or so, and comes with an assortment
of mutes at the bargain price of £650.
If you are interested speak to Catherine or Mike.
