It’s
back to that time again...
...it’s the quietest time of the year for band jobs and yet there always
seems to be plenty to put in the newsletter!
Buy
a Brick!
The
“Buy a Brick” campaign is now well under way.
With over £500 raised so far we have covered our costs and are now
well into profit! So if you
haven’t sold the tickets Jane issued you with – shame on you! Get
selling! NOW!
If you have, get the cash and stubs to Jane and get some more and keep on
selling! Jane will be
delighted to provide you with more (and more and more….)
Don’t leave it all to our star sellers Brian and Wendy, both of whom
have sold HUNDREDS of tickets! See if you can beat them! It must be
possible!
50+
Club
As
we come towards the start of a new season for the 50+ Club, we will need
more people to join it.
This is a regular source of income for the band and the more
members there are, the higher the profit for the band.
So get all your friends, families etc to join, wherever they live!
Ask Brian for more details!
Howardian
Hills help out!
You will be glad to hear that we
have made a successful application for a grant towards the cost of restoring
the Bandroom.
A grant is being made of £4,500, which will help immensely.
Thank you, Dorothy for all your hard work on form-filling – it’s
paid off!
Masterclasses
at Minsthorpe
The
YHBBA
Minsthorpe
Brass masterclass 2005
will be
held on Saturday 12th November.
If you are interested in going talk to Dorothy who will be getting
application forms.
On the basis of previous years, this should be well worth going to!
Practicalities
While
we wait for the new windows to be put in, they will continue to live in the
big practice room.
So please can everyone except Bass players put their cases in the small
practice room until they have been installed!
Recycling
Most of the rubbish generated in
the Bandroom can be recycled!
So please can you dispose of yours in the labelled waste baskets.
They are for Paper, plastics and glass/cans.
Another
date for the diary!
Committee members – please
remember the next committee meeting will be on 1st September at
7.30 p.m. in the Bandroom! I’m
sure there will be a lot to discuss!

Cystic
Fibrosis Concert
Saturday’s concert in aid of
the Cystic Fibrosis Trust with Morgan Griffiths was a great success.
It was a lovely evening and we had a very enthusiastic audience.
For many present who had never heard a top-flight euphonium player,
Morgan’s solos were a revelation!
His combination of virtuosic technique and beautiful sound made it
an evening to remember!
The concert raised £178 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust so it wasn’t only
the band that benefited!
Many thanks to Lizzie for all the hard work she put in organising this
concert – it was much appreciated!
Birthdays!
Ha

18th

If
I have missed you out, I'm really sorry and I hope you all enjoy(ed) your
Birthdays.
Smartie
tubes
How are you doing with filling
a tube with small change? If you have a full one please let Anna have it.
If you haven’t got one, ask Anna for one!
Best
Wishes…
…
to Stewart and Mary as they get married on 27th August.
Dorothy is collecting for a wedding present from the band.
If you want to contribute please get it to her ASAP! Advance
planning
As
you may know, Phil Carter from Kirkbymoorside has agreed to take Swinton
Band to Malton Brass and the Area Contest.
This will undoubtedly mean a lot of hard work!
Please ensure your diaries are free for these contests – if there
is a problem let Dorothy know immediately! Good
luck…..
…to all those awaiting
exam results.
Hope they live up to your hopes and expectations! A
reminder!
Do
remember to display a Swinton Band notice when parking in the village.
If you haven’t got one, do ask Kath – she has plenty in her
folder!
And do be sure no-one can complain about our parking! Do
you know someone keen to learn?
There are some
instruments available so if you know anyone of any age who’d like to
start in learners, now would be a good time for them to start. Get in
touch with Dorothy, Steve or Catherine for further details.
